Katherine R. Whitaker, DBA

2024 Honoree

Dr. Katherine R. Whitaker currently serves as Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Voorhees University. In this role, she oversees the school’s strategic initiatives, aligning to the university’s long-term plan for student programs and technology. Additionally, she strengthens collaborations with other departments within the university to better serve students.

Employed at Voorhees since 2001, Dr. Whitaker has served in various roles, including Off-campus Instructional Site Coordinator for the Charleston and Summerville locations. Prior to becoming Dean, she was Chair for the Department of Business and Entrepreneurship. A passionate educator and trusted leader, Dr. Whitaker has over 30 years of experience in higher education.

She drives transformative outcomes in education by leveraging innovation and technology solutions. In addition to her tenure at Voorhees, Dr. Whitaker has teaching and professional experience from Springfield College, Trident Technical College, and Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Her areas of expertise include academic advising, admissions, curriculum development, program management, recruiting, student programs, and training.

Energized by her passion for helping others, Dr. Whitaker’s service is influential in the classroom, as well as in the community. She is 1st Vice President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Xi Omega Chapter, where she is very active in serving the local Charleston community.

She has led several programs and initiatives, including serving in various committee chairman roles. Dr. Whitaker also served as President of Twenty Pearls Foundation of Charleston, Inc., and she is a former member of the board of directors for YWCA of Greater Charleston.

Born in Charleston, Dr. Whitaker has deep roots in the low country. She grew up on Edisto Island and currently resides in Charleston. When Dr. Whitaker isn’t helping students or serving the community, she enjoys spending time with family and loved ones.

Dr. Whitaker earned a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Voorhees College. She later earned a Master of Arts in Human Resource Development from Webster University, as well as a Doctor of Business Administration from Northcentral University.
