Brandie D’Orazio

Educator, Healthcare Professional
2024 Honoree

Brandie D’Orazio is a proud mother of four amazing children. Personally and professionally, Brandie is a fierce advocate for others and her passion has led her to leading change in community-based organizations, healthcare, and education.

She began her career in the non-profit sector, working with youth in Baltimore in under resourced communities, focusing on advocacy and employment. Brandie’s passion for helping others manifested in a second careen in nursing, where she spent over ten plus years in clinical practice, serving high risk patients including cardiac, critical/intensive care and trauma.

Bedside care progressed to leadership and management roles where she drove systematic improvements in quality, patient and staff satisfaction, and clinical excellence.

Brandie’s professional and personal skills came into deeper focus with the birth of her fourth child, Leo, who was born with a random, genetic brain malformation. Given weeks to live, Leo persevered through three amazing years, with Brandie as his primary care giver. Leo’s life informed and continues to shed new light and perspective to the power of each person’s individual gifts and impact.

With two children diagnosed with Dyslexia, Brandie and her husband founded The Promise School in 2023 in Charleston to build a world class model for students with language-based learning differences.

Brandie holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology with a minor in philosophy from the Notre Dame of Maryland University, a Bachelor of Nursing from Coppin State University, and she began her Doctor of Nursing Practice, at MUSC (on hold to start the school).
