Olivia Gore, a proud native of Awendaw, South Carolina, is a product of Charleston County’s public school system. After graduating high school, she pursued higher education at South Carolina State University.
“I’ve always been drawn to beauty and art,” Olivia reflects. “Looking back, I realize I was preparing for my future when I played salon with my mom and sisters—complete with makeup and nails.”
What began as childhood play evolved into a true calling. Through hands-on experience and self-discovery, Olivia found her passion in nail technology. Inspired by the support she received from Dress for Success Charleston, she decided to turn her hustle into a legitimate business- Top Coat by Liv.
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Olivia launched her nail business. She didn’t just focus on perfecting her craft—she committed to understanding the business side of the beauty industry. She enrolled at Epiphany Beauty Institute, where she pursued licensure with the goal of promoting healthy, beautiful nails.
Through the Dress for Success Charleston Success Starter Program, Olivia gained the tools to turn her passion into a purpose-driven business. The program sharpened her skills, helped her develop a personal brand, and gave her the confidence to walk into spaces she once felt unqualified to enter.
She went on to represent Dress for Success Charleston at a regional competition featuring participants from other affiliates. Olivia delivered a powerful business pitch and proudly placed third, receiving $1,000 in seed funding to grow her brand.
“This experience will always be near and dear to my heart,” Olivia says. “It showed me the power of community, preparation, and believing in your dreams.”
